“Snow, Glass, Apples”

Friday, October 13th, 2006

So I decided to give Tori Amos’s Scarlet’s Walk album another chance today, because I’ve always considered it just sub-par background music. As usual, the lyrics frequently turned out to be more interesting than the music. One line, in particular, stood out: a reference to a short story by Neil Gaiman called “Snow, Glass, Apples.” I looked it up, and even though I don’t care for comics, fantasy, science fiction, modern lit., etc., I thought that it was very clever and wondered how I’d never heard of it before. You’ve probably read it, because you’re hipper than I am. If not, read it again. Not to give it away, but it’s a certain well-known fairy tale turned around.

Too bad only a few people will get the brilliance of this
