This afternoon Alison called to tell me that her iBook suddenly died in the middle of downloading email or something. She verified that the battery was charged, and that plugging it in didn’t make a difference. When she pressed the power button, the screen would stay black, but the fan would run at what sounded like full speed (over the phone, it sounded like a hairdryer). This post is going to be my running commentary on what I’m doing to troubleshoot it.

Action Effect
Reset the PRAM Screen appeared. Login succeeded. Screen went black as soon as I tried to open a Finder window.
